Preparing For The Future

The Christ Greenfield Elementary School is an academic program that is designed to challenge children to achievement that is in keeping with the gifts with which they have been blessed by God.

Kindergarten

Christian Learning: Christian Character Formation Project, Bible stories, and Weekly Chapel

Math: Guiding Kinders (Aligns with Common Core State Standards and prepares students for Eureka Math in Grades 1-5)

Language Arts: Fundations (phonics, phonetic awareness, and comprehension)

Social Studies: Social Stories, Christian Character Formation Project, Lessons on Community

Science: S.T.E.A.M. Exploration, STEM to STEAM Curriculum

Enrichment:  Art, Physical Education, Spanish, Music with an emphasis on Choral and Orff Instrumental instruction, Thematic Learning Units (Half-day students participate in Music only)

Service: 'Hearts and Hands in Motion' Service Project: Serving Those Who Serve Others

Technology: iPads, Utilization of AV for instruction

Christ: Our goal is for students to realize who God is and their identity in Christ. This is done through modeling Christian behavior; studying the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus; building relationships in the classroom based on the teachings and example of Christ; Bible verse memorization; daily prayer, and devotions.

Quality: Our goal is for students to develop a strong foundation in English Language Arts and Mathematics by being challenged and supported at each child’s level.

Community: Our goal is to model and nurture respect and love within and beyond our classroom by participating with classmates and parents in service projects, field trips, celebrations, and events.

Examples: Phoenix Zoo, Theater Productions, 100th Day of School, K-2 Math Day, Riparian Preserve, Mother Nature’s Farm, Fire Station.

1st Grade

Christian Learning: Christian Character Formation Project.

Language Arts: Fundations (spelling, reading, phonics, and handwriting), book studies (reading and phonics), Shurley Method (English).

Math: Eureka and Zearn.

Science: Macmillan/McGraw-Hill.

Social Studies: Pearson-Scott Foresman, Scholastic News, and thematic units.

Enrichment:  Library, PE, Spanish, Art, Choir, Music, and participation in a musical production.

Technology:  Document camera, Chromebooks, iPads, and other technology tools utilized for lessons.

Christ: Building a relationship with Jesus. Practice grace, forgiveness, expression, and encouragement daily to promote positive relationships with peers, teachers, and family members.  Recognize and appreciate God’s hand in all creation.  Participate in daily prayer, devotions, and a weekly chapel.

Quality: Grow in maturity, knowledge, and ability through hands-on and discussion-driven lessons and activities. Practice organization and successful work habits.  Learn through a variety of methods (student-led projects, cooperative groups, pair and share, small groups, teacher-directed, and exploration).

Community: Work together to develop Christ-centered relationships with each other, teachers, and families. Be a role model in and outside of the classroom. Participate with classmates in the Hearts and Hands in Motion community service projects. Supporting PTL events.

Various field trips are taken each year which tie into the curriculum and/or develop an appreciation for the arts.  Trips taken in past years include children’s theater performances, the Phoenix Zoo, and the Riparian Preserve. Special K-2 celebrations include Johnny Appleseed Day and 100 days of school.

2nd Grade

Christian Learning: Christian Character Formation Project.

Math: Eureka.
Science: MacMillan/McGraw-Hill.
Social Studies: Scott Foresman and Scholastic News.
Enrichment: Library, PE, Spanish, Art, Choir, and participation in a musical production.
Technology: Document camera, Chromebooks, iPads, and other technology tools utilized for lessons.

Christ: Develop a deeper relationship with God through the study of Bible stories, focusing on how these stories apply in their daily lives. Realize that everyone has sinned and has a need for a Savior, Jesus Christ. Memorize a Bible verse each week. Participate in daily prayer, devotions, and a weekly chapel.

Quality: Develop healthy study habits, organizational skills, and good citizenship qualities. Develop reading skills which include progressing comprehension strategies, expanding vocabulary, and reinforcing phonics skills.  Learn grammar skills including classifying sentences and how to write two-point paragraphs. Master the basic addition and subtraction facts, learn time to five-minute intervals, cover addition and subtraction with regrouping, work with measurement and geometric shapes, and are introduced to multiplication.

Community: Work together to build Christ-centered relationships with other students and teachers. Develop sportsmanship and conflict resolution skills. Participate in activities involving different grade levels to develop their abilities to serve others. Develop citizenship and leadership skills. Participate with classmates in Hearts and Hands in Motion community service projects.

Athletics: ADM (Athletic Developmental Model) Softball/Baseball, Soccer, and Basketball
Clubs: Chess Club

Various field trips are taken each year which tie into the curriculum and/or develop an appreciation for the arts.  Trips taken in past years include children’s theater performances and the Gilbert Historical Museum. Special K-2 celebrations include Johnny Appleseed Day and 100 days of school. 

3rd Grade

Quality: Develop good study habits, organizational skills, and leadership. Master multiplication and division, cursive handwriting, presentation skills, writing skills, critical thinking, increasing comprehension skills, and the traits of being a good writer.

Community: Work together to build Christ-centered relationships with other students and teachers. Develop sportsmanship and conflict resolution skills. Participate in activities involving different grade levels to develop their abilities to serve others. Develop citizenship and leadership skills. Participate with classmates in Hearts and Hands in Motion community service projects.

4th Grade

Language Arts: Shurley Method (English), Novel Studies, Spelling—Words their Way.
Math: Eureka.
Science: MacMillan/McGraw-Hill.
Social Studies: Scott Foresman (United States regions and Arizona history).
Enrichment: Library, PE, Spanish, Art, Band (Recorders), Choir, and participation in musical production.
Technology: Document camera, Chromebooks, iPads, and other technology tools utilized for lessons.

Christ: Learn Bible stories. Discuss and apply God’s Word to their daily lives. Memorize Scripture. Deepen and develop their relationships with God. Participate in daily prayer, devotions, and a weekly chapel.

Quality: Practice and improve on their study skills, and organizational skills. Learn to be a good citizen. Master multiplication and division, presentation skills, creative and expository writing, and critical thinking skills. Increase reading comprehension and basic language skills.

Community: Work together to build Christ-centered relationships with other students and teachers. Develop sportsmanship and conflict resolution skills. Participate in activities involving different grade levels to develop their abilities to serve others. Develop citizenship and leadership skills. Participate with classmates in Hearts and Hands in Motion community service projects.

Athletics: Intermediate Athletics through NYS (baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball) and Track
Clubs: Chess Club, FIRST LEGO League (robotics), and Student Council

Trips taken in past years include the Mesa Arts Center, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Science Center, the Arizona State Capitol, Pueblo Grande, Grand Canyon, Pioneer Living History, and Child’s Play Theater.

5th Grade

Christian Learning: Christian Character Formation Project.
Language Arts: Novel Based Literature Studies and Strategy Instruction (reading), Shurley Method (English), and Words Their Way (Spelling).
Math: Eureka.
Science: MacMillan/McGraw-Hill.
Social Studies: Scott Foresman.
Enrichment: Art, Library, PE, Spanish, Band (optional), Choir, Music, and participation in a musical production.
Technology: Document camera, interactive whiteboard, iPad, Chromebooks, and other technology tools utilized for lessons.

Christ: Learn Bible stories. Discuss and apply God’s Word to their daily lives. Memorize Scripture. Deepen and develop their relationships with God. Participate in daily prayer, devotions, and a  weekly chapel.

Quality: Become more self-reliant for organizational skills and study skills. Master grammar and writing skills, presentation skills, math facts, and critical thinking.  Increase reading and comprehension skills.

Community: Work together to build Christ-centered relationships with other students and teachers. Develop sportsmanship and conflict resolution skills. Participate in activities involving different grade levels to develop their abilities to serve others. Develop citizenship and leadership skills. Participate with classmates in Hearts and Hands in Motion community service projects.

Athletics: Flag football and track (Varsity) and softball, baseball, volleyball, and soccer through NYS (Intermediate Sports program).
Clubs: Chess Club, FIRST LEGO League (robotics), Student Council.

Various field trips are taken each year which tie into the curriculum and/or develop an appreciation for the arts.  Trips taken in past years include the Mesa Arts Center, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Science Center, American Heritage Center, and an overnight trip to Tucson area attractions.
